SAPPHIRE 1.1.0 DROID (Froyo)

The core of Android is released from AOSP under a combination of the Apache and GPLv2 licenses. Sapphire is released under the GPLv2 license, which can be found below:

Occasionally when you longpress the volume up/down keys to skip through songs when the screen is off, it will begin to continually skip and never stop. This is a result of some problems in the multi-threaded code. I had thought that I had fixed this but apparently it still exists. The best way to stop it for now is to simply tap the volume button a few times in the direction you were skipping, as the “key released” messages will then be re-sent and clear out the event queue that causes this to happen.

I am currently working on trying to fix that, but hopefully you all can bear with me for now until it is fixed.

In this release, the problem appears to have persisted though is not as prevalent as before. I have also included an option in GEM settings to disable the feature altogether.

The kernels supported for this release have been custom built by cvpcs based on work done by P3Droid and Bekit. These are the only kernels officially supported by sapphire.

Below are the various themes that have been set up to work with Sapphire 1.1.0. For screenshots of these themes in action, click on their name in the list!

Installation of themes is done using update.zip format. As such, simply download the desired theme file to /sdcard/update.zip and then apply it.

Installation is performed using the standard update.zip installation method. The steps of which are:

1. Download the update.zip file at the top of this page
2. Reboot your phone into recovery mode
3. MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR PHONE
4. Reset phone to factory default (THIS STEP IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VERSION [see explanation below])
5. Push sapphire-1.1.0-update.zip to /sdcard/update.zip
6. Tell your recovery to allow update.zip installation
7. Install from /sdcard/update.zip

If you plan on installing a new kernel or theme, simply follow the same steps as above with those zip files.

All bug reports and feature requests will be done through Bugzilla, an issue tracker hosted on this site. It requires a valid email to register (which is only used for tracking which users have what bugs), and provides a much better interface to report and track problems or features.

        In order to better allow for multiple device support, the build
        configs are now consolidated across all devices.  This means
        a more common experience for all systems running a GEM.

1.0.2:
    New kernels [cvpcs]
        Added some new kernels with interactive governor support, which
        provides a tradeoff between battery life and performance that
        leans more towards performance.  Note that ondemand will remain
        the default as it promotes better battery life.  The stock
        125-1000LV kernel has also been replaced by the 250-800SV kernel
        for the purpose of providing more stability out-of-the-box.

    Re-enabled stagefright player [cvpcs] (thanks google)
        A recent check-in to the froyo source tree has fixed the audio
        issues some were experiencing in stagefright, specifically with
        AAC+ and eAAC streams.  Thus I have synced the fix and re-
	enabled stagefright for media playback.

    Disabled stagefright player [cvpcs]
        The stagefright player has been disabled in favor of the opencore
        one.  This is likely to change in the future and was only done as
        some users have reported poor audio quality on some applications

        Added IPv6 support to the base kernel instead of a module.  This
        fixes a few FC in applications like Google Goggles which try to
        use IPv6.

    Modified next/prev volume button controls [cvpcs]
        Fixed some logic in the longpress issues where presses were being
        sent indefinitely.  Also doubled the amount of time for repeated
        longpresses for easier track seeking.

        Now if you longpress and hold the up/down volume buttons, it will
        seek through tracks instead of executing once and then raising or

        Made some fixes to the sapphire kernels to fix the omap34xx cpu

        apps would not show up under phone info.

        Added options to GEM settings to set cpu frequency scaling options

        to him for all the hard work.  These new kernels now provide several
        missing modules such as compcache and cifs and more.
